The year has started off strong. You should have got the STAR reading comprehension assessment results on Friday. Please sign one copy to return to school and keep the other copy for your records.
In math we have been working on fact fluency strategies like doubles, counting on or counting back, and using fact families. We just started working on word problems and have learned to read, think, underline important information, and write an equation to match the story. This helps them think about what is happening and what the unknown is in each story.
The class has been working on writing personal narratives. They have "It Happened to Me" stories and stories about their friends. We have been reviewing using capitals, punctuation, proper handwriting, developing a story that has a beginning, middle, and end, and adding sight and sound descriptive words to their writing.
The class has learned about their MyOn accounts and are learning how to pick "just right books" within their reading level, and most students have started taking AR quizzes.
You may have heard about how we found a gecko lizard by the computer lab inside the school and after everyone got to see it we released it into the garden. Last week, we returned to the garden to see what was happening there. Many students said that they saw the lizard, but that was unconfirmed. We are all sure the gecko is living a happy life in our school garden.
I am sure there will be many more adventures this year.
